First, thanks to everyone who responded to the survey regarding events for Reunion Weekend. Over 100 classmates responded and I'm happy to report that there was a good deal of consensus around the main points:
- You told us you want to have afternoon seminars/lectures on Finance/Economy and on Life at Smith Today. We've responded by securing Professor Mahnaz Mahdavi as one of our speakers. Professor Mahdavi is Professor of Economics and the founding director of the Women and Financial Independence Program at Smith College. We also responded by securing a panel of current Smith students for a Q&A session about Life at Smith Today.
- You told us you would like to have a dance party on Saturday night. We've responded by putting Dede Martin in charge of that event and securing a location and DJ for the festivities.
- You told us you didn't want speakers at dinner unless the speaker was extremely compelling. We've responded by canning the speaker idea and inviting the Notables to sing on one night and soliciting an informal panel of your classmates with unusual post-Smith experiences for quick updates if the spirit strikes us. We also expect that President Christ will make her way to one of our dinners for a quick chat. Otherwise, dinners are ours for catching up and reconnecting!
- You told us you wanted help with childcare during reunion. The college has responded by offering child care via Children's Conference Care. Complete details will be contained in the Reunion registration booklet, and information will be posted on the AASC Web site as it becomes available.
- Added Bonus! Several classmates have volunteered to organize a poetry/fiction reading and art exhibit for our class! Please contact Shaun Hunter if this is something you'd like to participate in.
- One missing piece: Several of you requested a walk/run road race event. We're glad to add it to the schedule if someone will make it happen. Contact Leigh if you want to volunteer to organize an all-reunion race.
